La Saga du Jean
L’exposition raconte l’aventure du jean à travers un parcours en trois parties évoquant tour à tour l’histoire, la sociologie et la création plastique.
Les usines textiles installées à Bischwiller (Alsace) dès le XIXè siècle vont fabriqués des produits textiles d’une qualité exceptionnelle : les grandes expositions nationales et universelles de Paris, Londres et New York saluent et priment cette production.
Cet âge d’or décline et il ne reste bientôt plus qu’une usine de confection masculine, Vestra, pour témoigner de cet héritage.
Marithé+François Girbaud répond à cette invitation et présente 10 pièces phares : deux jeans Stonewashed des années 70, une robe en Bleu Eternel, trois robes fillettes, deux paires de chaussures, un ensemble en WattwashTM, et la désormais célèbre veste du Petit Mendiant à la part de tourte.

The exhibit tells the story of jeans in a three-part itinerary from historical, sociological, and artistic points of view. The textile mills in Bischwiller (Alsace) began manufacturing textile products of exceptional quality as early as the 19th century, winning medals at national and world fairs in Paris, London, and New York. At the end of that golden age, only one mill remained to bear witness to the heritage: Vestra, specialized in menswear. Marithé+François Girbaud accepted the invitation, presenting 10 of their most influential pieces: two Stonewashed jeans from the 70s, a Blue Eternal dress, three dresses for little girls, two pairs of shoes, an outfit in WattwashTM and the now famous "Beggar Boy with a Piece of Pie" jacket.
